Man Gets 10 Years In Prison For Drug-Induced Homicide

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 29-year-old McHenry man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for buying the drugs that killed a McHenry man in Crystal Lake in 2021.

Wasfi Awwad pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony, this past week. Authorities say Awwad arranged to buy cocaine and Percocet pills for himself and Daniel Iles, 30, on Sept. 21, 2021, according to the Lake/McHenry County Scanner.

The Crystal Lake Police Department was called to investigate the death on Sept. 22, 2021. Iles was found dead in a room at the Super 8 Motel, 577 Crystal Lake Point Road in Crystal Lake, according to the Scanner report.

An autopsy shows combination of cocaine and fentanyl caused Iles' death, according to the Lake/McHenry County Scanner.
