Man Gets Prison Time In Mariano's Robbery

The local man was sentenced to five years in prison after he pulled knife on a Mariano's employee and then fled the Crystal Lake store.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A 31-year-old McHenry man who pulled out a knife and shoved a shopping cart into a grocery store employee while trying to steal goods from the Crystal Lake business is headed to prison.

David O. Harper pleaded guilty to a charge or robbery - victim over 60 years old, which is a Class 1 felony, last week. McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt sentenced him to five years in prison in connection with the May 26 incident at the Mariano's in Crystal Lake.

On that day, authorities say Harper attempted to steal merchandise from Mariano's when an employee tried to stop him from getting away with the items. Harper then pushed a shopping cart into the employee and pulled a knife out of his pocket.

Harper then fled but was taken into custody shortly after the robbery, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.
