Coroner IDs Man Killed While Driving Motorized Wheelchair On Rural Roadway
The crash happened on Ringwood Road northeast of Johnsburg on Saturday afternoon.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL - A 62-year-old man who was struck and killed by a vehicle while driving a motorized wheelchair near Johnsburg on Saturday afternoon has been identified as William Roy Schmidt of rural McHenry. A 2016 Subaru Forester was heading east on Ringwood Road west of Memory Trail when it hit the Permobil F3 Corpus wheelchair at about 1:24 p.m. on Saturday.
The driver of the Subaru, a 65-year-old man, was taken to Centegra Hospital - McHenry for treatment of minor injuries, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. There were no other passengers in the vehicle.
Schmidt was taken to Centegra Hospital - McHenry where he was pronounced dead a short while later, McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said in a news release.

An autopsy revealed Schmidt died of blunt force trauma to his chest and extremities, according to Majewski.
The collision remains under investigation.
