Man Sentenced to 10 Years In Prison for 10th DUI

Despite the repeated violations, this is the Wisconsin man's first prison sentence for drunken driving, prosecutors said Thursday.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL – A Wisconsin man with ten DUI convictions has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a recent aggravated drunken driving conviction in McHenry County, prosecutors said. Raymond Puterbaugh, of Silver Lake, Wis., pleaeded guilty to a charge of aggravated riving under the influence, a Class X felony, and was sentenced to the prison time. The charge came after Puterbaugh was stopped by a police officer on Jan. 29 on Route 173 in Spring Grove when the officer spotted his vehicle weaving and speeding, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.

Following the traffic stop, the officer noticed signs of alcohol impairment and asked Puterbaugh to perform field sobriety tests., according to the news release. Puterbaugh refused field sobriety tests and following his arrest, Puterbaugh also refused to submit to a breathalyzer test, prosecutors said.

An investigation into Puterbaugh revealed he has been convicted of a total of nine prior drunken driving violations in four different states.

"Despite these repeated violations, this is Puterbaugh’s first sentence to the Department of Corrections for
the offense of Driving Under the Influence," according to the state's attorney's office news release.
