Man Shot During Home Invasion Has Died

Don Jouravleff died after being shot during a home invasion at his home near McHenry early Saturday.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL - A 52-year-old man who was seriously injured after being shot during a home invasion near McHenry has died, the Northwest Herald reports. Hospital officials confirmed Don Jouravleff died but the McHenry County Sheriff's Office has not yet released information on the death. In a press release sent out over the weekend, authorities did say a 52-year-old man was seriously injured when two men entered his home at about 1 a.m. on Saturday, stole cash and shot him.

Police said the shooting occurred in a home in the 1800 block of Davis Avenue early Saturday morning. The assailants were described as one white male and one black male. Both suspects were wearing bandanas over their faces. They fled the area in a small dark-colored pickup truck, according to the sheriff's office news release.

Tim White, 54, of Cary told the Northwest Herald he met Jouravleff several years ago through Willow Creek Community Church in Crystal Lake and learned of Jouravleff's death through a mutual friend. He described White as funny, friendly and jovial.

“He was just an awesome guy,” White told the newspaper. “He loved his family.”

The Argo Alumni Association shared its condolences to Jouravleff's family in a Facebook post on Sunday. According to the Facebook post, Jouravleff died at 2:15 a.m. on Sunday after being shot in the neck and shoulder during a home invasion at this home. He never regained consciousness.

Authorities have not shared a motive into the shooting. They also did not release any information on how the suspect and victims were related. Authorities did say they thought the shooting was an isolated incident and they did not believe there was any threat to the public.

As of Tuesday morning, no suspects had been booked at the McHenry County Jail on home invasion or murder charges.

The home invasion is being investigated by the McHenry County Major Investigations Team and the sheriff's office is urging anyone with information on the incident to call 815-338- 2144.
