Man Who Drove Into Home Looks To Modify Bond: Authorities

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A 27-year-old man accused of driving 96 mph on a street in Crystal Lake when he slammed his SUV into a home will make a court appearance this week.
Connor Kirkpatrick faces criminal damage to property more than $100,000, aggravated reckless driving causing great bodily harm or disfigurement and reckless conduct - great bodily harm in connection with the July 27 collision. He is expected to appear in court for a motion hearing Wednesday where a judge will consider whether to modify a condition of his bond, which does not allow him to leave the state.
Kirkpatrick is requesting permission to leave Illinois with a family member so he can visit a family member in Washington, D.C., for the holidays, according to court documents.

Authorities say Kirkpatrick was driving 96 mph in a 30 mph zone when he knowingly drove his 2017 Subaru Impreza into a garage and house in the 100 block of Heather Drive at about 7 p.m. on July 27, according to a criminal complaint. Angelo Pleotis, 64, was in the shower at the time of the collision and became trapped inside.
He was freed from the wreckage and flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center. Pleotis suffered collapsed lungs, head trauma, broken ribs, two spinal fractures and dislocations and paralysis, according to a GoFundMe set up by his family to help cover expenses incurred following the incident.

Kirkpatrick was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center and after he was released from the hospital, he was taken into custody since Oct. 25. He has been free on bail since Oct. 26, according to online court records.
