Manganese Levels In Marengo Drinking Water Back Within Acceptable Limits: Officials

City officials say additional testing found no elevated manganese levels.

MARENGO, IL — Manganese levels in Marengo’s drinking water are back within acceptable limits following additional testing that was done earlier this year, city officials said.

The city mailed a public notice to users of its water system after an elevated manganese level was detected in one sample from Well #6 during the fourth quarter of 2025, according to a post on the city of Marengo Facebook page. The notice was required by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency as part of its compliance procedures.

According to the city, no elevated manganese levels were found in any subsequent samples after the initial test. Additional testing conducted in early 2026 also showed manganese levels within acceptable limits, officials said.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency confirmed the results and issued an all-clear for the city’s water system on March 3, officials said.

Marengo’s drinking water remains in full compliance with all state requirements, and officials said there are no ongoing concerns related to manganese or other regulated contaminants.
