Maps Show Where Flooding Could Occur Near Chain O' Lakes, Northern Fox River

The Fox River is expected to rise two more feet in coming days. The maps show where flooding is expected to occur.

LAKE COUNTY, IL - The rain appears to have stopped for the the foreseeable future but that doesn't mean more flooding is not on the way. The Fox River is predicted to rise about two more feet in the coming days. With that in mind, the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission is maintaining red flood status, which signifies major flooding is continuing, according to a news release from Lake County Emergency Management Agency

"It’s important to realize that the rivers still haven’t crested and additional flooding is imminent," according to the news release.

Emergency management officials on Thursday released inundation maps, which show a prediction of additional structures that will be impacted by flooding along the Chain O' Lakes and the northern portion of the Fox River. The maps can be viewed here.

The inundation maps are meant to serve as a helpful tool in predicting where additional flooding may occur, according to county officials. These maps are generated using data from previous floods and current modeling based on the amount of water and rate of flow.

"We want to share these with the public to help increase awareness of the flooding situation," according to the Lake Co. Emergency Management Agency news release.
