McHenry Co. Woman Wins $75,000 Instantly on Holiday Lottery Ticket

A Johnsburg woman recently won $75,000 after scratching and winning on a holiday-themed Illinois Lottery ticket. Tiffany Poland instantly won the top price on the Candy Cane Crossword ticket.

“I plan to invest this money for my two daughters to go to college,” she said when she presented her ticket at the Lottery Prize Center in Des Plaines.

Poland, 30, bought her winning ticket at the BP at 3615 Chapel Hill Road in Johnsburg. She was in her car when she scratched it and discovered her win, according to a news release from the Illinois Lottery.

“I checked my ticket over and over,” she said. “I couldn’t believe I won $75,000.”

BP received a $750 bonus, equal to one percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.
