McHenry County State's Attorney Kicks Off Red Ribbon Week

Louis A. Bianchi, McHenry County State's Attorney, announces the joint celebration of Red Ribbon Week with local schools.

Louis A. Bianchi, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces the joint celebration of Red Ribbon Week with local schools.  Red Ribbon Week commemorates Kiki Camerena, the DEA Drug Agent who gave up his life fighting the war on drugs. It has become an annual event that focuses on drug abuse awareness and prevention.

Students from eight schools joined the State’s Attorney at the courthouse to present poems, essays and to discuss the ways in which they will celebrate Red Ribbon Week at their schools. Thirty five thousand red wristbands, displaying this year’s anti-drug theme, “Love Yourself, Be Drug Free”, were distributed to over 40 schools in the McHenry County area, along with T-shirts bearing the slogan, “Turn Your Back on Drugs.”

Juvenile Court Judge, Maureen McIntyre, addressed the students. Regional Superintendent of Schools, Leslie Schermerhorn, was also in attendance along with radio personality Stew Cohen from Star 105.5 who will be broadcasting the recorded event.
