Missing Man Found Dead Under Ice In McHenry County: Police
The man was found dead under the ice in Wonder Lake on Saturday afternoon.
WONDER LAKE, IL — A man reported missing was found dead under the ice in Wonder Lake Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.
The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District was called to the 5200 block of West Lake Shore Drive in Wonder Lake at about 3:45 p.m. on Saturday to assist police with a missing person search, according to a news release from the fire protection district.
Rescue crews were called after a law enforcement drone spotted what appeared to be a body about 100 feet off shore and underneath the ice, fire officials said. Crews used a specialized ice rescue craft to investigate and firefighters in ice-rescue suits entered the water to remove the body.

No firefighters were injured during the recovery effort, according to the news release.
The incident remains under investigation.
