More Tolerable Temperatures in The Forecast for This Week

Following four days of extreme heat, temperatures will drop off for the start of the work week.

On Monday and Tuesday, temperatures will be in the low- to mid-80s with much more tolerable humidity levels, according to the National Weather Service.

This heat wave, though, could prime the atmosphere for thunderstorms for the rest of today. A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the Chicago suburbs for the Sunday afternoon and into tonight. The main risk with those storms will be torrential downpours, which could lead to flooding, and damaging wind gusts that could reach up to 70 mph. There is also a chance for large hail.

Here is a more detailed look at the forecast for the rest of the week:

• Monday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 80s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
• Tuesday: Sunny. Highs in the mid 80s. North winds around 5 mph in the morning becoming northeast in the afternoon.
• Wednesday: Mostly sunny in the morning then becoming partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 80s inland...but only around 80 near the lake.
• Thursday: Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the lower 80s inland...but only in the upper 70s near the lake.
• Friday: Highs in the lower 80s inland...but only in the upper 70s near the lake.
