Murder Charges Filed In Fox Lake Man's Shooting Death
The 77-year-old man was shot while with a woman who he arranged to have a "romantic relationship" with in exchange for money, police said.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 77-year-old Fox Lake man was fatally shot inside his home after arranging to have a "romantic relationship" with a 31-year-old Round Lake woman in exchange for money, police said Tuesday. The woman, Kathryn A. Deason, 31, and the man accused of shooting the Fox Lake man, Azmi Ibrahim Jr., 37, now face charges in connection with Roy Hoffman's death Monday night.
Ibrahim has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with accusations he went inside Hoffman's apartment, in the 0 to 100 block of Mineola Road in Fox Lake, while Deason was with Hoffman. Ibrahim, of the 300 block of Lunar Drive in Round Lake, had been waiting in his vehicle while Deason, also of the 300 block of Lunar Drive, "met with Hoffman for a period of time," according to a news release from the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.
"Ibrahim eventually went inside of the apartment building looking for Deason," according to authorities. "After determining the unit Deason was inside of, Ibrahim went back to his vehicle and retrieved a rifle."

While inside the apartment, a "disagreement occurred" before Ibrahim fatally shot Hoffman, authorities said.
Both Deason and Ibrahim then fled in a minivan, according to police. Autopsy results released Monday show Hoffman died from a gunshot wound, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office.

The Fox Lake Police Department was initially called to Hoffman's home at about 9:35 p.m. for a report of shots fired, according to a news release from the Lake County Major Crime Task Force. When officers arrived, they found the 77-year-old man dead inside.
A short time after the shooting, officers responded to an unrelated call in the 300 block of Lunar Drive in Round Lake and saw a minivan that matched the description of the minivan that fled the scene of the Fox Lake murder, according to police. Authorities set up a perimeter around the home when Ibrahim left the home and surrendered to police.
Authorities say additional charges are possible in the case.
