8th Grade Students at Prairie Grove Junior High Honor the Memory of those Impacted by The Holocaust

Prairie Grove Class of 2015

Proudly Presents the Holocaust Memorial Museum

By: Kate Bieschke 8th Grade Literature/Language Arts Teacher

Each year, we teach our students about the horrors of the Holocaust. We are motivated to do so for many reasons. Most of all, we want the students to acquire a sense of compassion and acceptance for the human race. They must become empowered by their gift of life and treat all others with respect. Hitler was one of the world’s biggest bullies and our students gain an understanding of the destruction one person can have on another’s life. To culminate this unit of study, we ask our students to create a memorial for all of the victims, survivors, and heroes of the Holocaust. We display the memorials in the school’s library to create our very own Holocaust Memorial Museum. This year’s Museum will be open May 19th–May 20th – 4:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. We invite our fellow students, administrators, members of the School Board, and the surrounding community to come and witness the authentic lessons our students have learned. The results are overwhelming and through this experience, the students gain a true understanding that their actions have a definite impact on the lives of others. In a time when teenagers are too often seen in a negative light, we firmly believe this is a story that will bring hope and enlightenment to the masses. Please visit our Holocaust Museum and give our students the opportunity to tell their story and show them their voice and their actions do matter.
