CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Newly released records show that the family of a 7-month-old Crystal Lake boy who died in May 2025 told hospital officials he fell down a flight of basement stairs while using a baby walker, according to Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
Lucas A. Landwehr was injured May 26, 2025, at his family's home in unincorporated Crystal Lake after an older sibling reportedly left the basement door open while retrieving luggage. The infant was initially taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital before being transferred to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, where he died four days later.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office determined Landwehr died from complications of blunt force injuries to his head and neck but classified the manner of death as undetermined, rather than an accident or homicide.
