No Bids For AJ's Home At Foreclosure Sale
Pending court approval, the home at 94 Dole Avenue will be handed over to William Progar, mortgage holder and real estate investor.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The home where authorities say 5-year-old AJ Freund was killed has a new owner. The dilapidated single-family residents at 94 Dole Avenue in Crystal Lake garnered no outside interest from buyers during a foreclosure sale Wednesday. If the court approves the transaction, it will now be handed over to William Progar, the mortgage holder and real estate investor, the Daily Herald reports.
Progar has not shared what he plans to do with the property, according to media reports. He is owed $116,871 for the property and set Wednesday's opening bid on the home at $49,000, according to the Daily Herald. The "credit bid," since there were no outside bids placed on the home, means Progar is still owed the total judgement amount, Progar's attorney, Jonathan B. Kaman, told the Daily Herald.
Meanwhile, a request by the city of Crystal Lake to demolish the home is making its way through McHenry County Court. The next hearing on the matter is Nov. 27. The home was in disrepair before AJ's parents, Joann Cunningham and Andrew Freund, are accused of putting their young son in a cold shower as a punishment and then beating him to death this past April. Afterward, public works crews were tasked with upkeep at the home and issued fines every time they made repairs at the home or mowed the lawn, according to media reports.
It's unclear at this point how the city's case and the foreclosure sale affect each other, and Kaman told the Daily Herald the demolition request will move forward.
Many, including those who live in the once-quiet neighborhood on Dole Avenue, would like to see the house demolished and a memorial or park erected in its place.
Cunningham and Freund remain behind bars on murder charges in connection with AJ's death.
