WAUCONDA, IL — A veteran ski jumper who got his start at Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove has returned for his third Olympic run.

Kevin Bickner, of Wauconda, has been skiing since he was 9 years old. Bickner, who competed in the 2018 and 2022 Olympics, is back this year as well — this time as a veteran on the team and the only jumper who is not a rookie on the U.S. team, according to Lake County News-Sun.

“When you’re on the opposite end of the spectrum, you think it’s going to be like that forever. Then slowly, year by year, things change, and before you know it, you’re the guy that people look to. You’re the experienced one, and you have to take on more of a leadership role,” Bickner said.
