Police Investigate 'Suspicious Package' At Northwest Herald
The newspaper office on Route 31 did not open Monday morning.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – The Northwest Herald office on Route 31 in Crystal Lake was closed Monday as authorities investigated the report of a suspicious-looking package, which was delivered to the newspaper, police said. Authorities cleared the scene early Monday afternoon "after determining the package was a legitimate delivery," Crystal Lake Police Department Deputy Chief Derek Hyrkas told Patch.
The suspicious-looking package was found by Northwest Herald employees, Hyrkas said. Police were called to the scene to investigate and the Kane County Sheriff's Office bomb squad responded. The bomb squad determined the package was not dangerous.
"The package had an unusual shape and wrapping, and placed in such a way as to obstruct the label," Hyrkas said. And, what was inside? Hyrkas said the package contained foam cushions for briefcases.
