Have you met the Characters of Character? Joni Downey is the creator of this non-profit organization located in McHenry, Illinois. The Characters earned a National Promising Practice Award and now is know nationally with over 30 published books! Recently Joni visited the Vernon Area Public Library to discuss polite words with Manners Monkey. First, Joni read "I Am Manners Monkey" and talked with the children about what it means to have good manners. Then, the kids went to the tables to paint their very own Manners Monkey to take home as a visual reminder to use polite words and have good manners. When I got home, I had an email from a parent, this is what she said:
Dear Ms.Downey,
Super thanks for the great program you gave to all kids at Vernon Area Public Library today! My daughter learnt a lot and cannot stop discussing with me topics of good manners on our way home. She also asked me how to say all polite words in our native language. And she just hung the manners chart on her room. I really appreciate all positive impetus you promoted.
