Passenger In Medical Transport Vehicle Killed In Crash

The collision happened in rural McHenry County on Friday morning.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 63-year-old Harvard man died in a two-vehicle crash in McHenry County Friday morning. The man was being transported by a medical transportation company, Spee Dee Medical Transportation of Rockford, at the time of the collision, police said.

Spee Dee is a non-emergency transport company whose drivers get people to medical appointments and counseling sessions.

The collision happened at 11:45 a.m. when the transport vehicle, a 2007 Dodge Caravan, was heading west on O'Brien Road. The Dodge did not stop for a stop sign and hit a 2012 Toyota Highlander that was southbound on Alden Road, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the Dodge, an 82-year-old Rockford man, was employed by Spee Dee Medical Transportation, according to the press release. The Harvard man was being transported at the time and was the only passenger inside the Dodge, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 37-year-old man from Middleton, Wisconsin, and two juvenile passengers were treated and released at the scene.

Seatbelts were used by the driver of the Dodge and all occupants in side the Toyota. Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
