Foul Play Not Suspected In Drowning Death In Crystal Lake Retention Pond: UPDATE

The man drowned in the pond, according to preliminary autopsy results from the McHenry County Coroner's Office.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL - Crystal Lake police do not believe foul play played a part in the drowning death of man in a retention pond near OfficeMax, according to the Northwest Herald. Meanwhile, authorities are asking for the public's help as they work to identify a man found dead Monday morning. The man, who is believed to be in his 20s or 30s, was pulled from the pond at 4417 Northwest Highway and has yet to be identified

"At this time, we have no indication whatsoever that foul play was involved," Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Derek Hyrkas told the Northwest Herald.

Police have "no reason to believe a threat to the public exists," authorities said. But they have not been able to provide any additional information on why they do not think foul play is a factor, how long the man could have been in the pond and how he ended up there, according to the Northwest Herald.

The man is described as 5-feet, 9-inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He has short, black hair and is Hispanic. He also had several tattoos and was wearing tan cargo-style shorts, grey boat shoes and no shirt, police said Tuesday.

The McHenry County Coroner on Tuesday revealed the man died from drowning, according to preliminary findings from his autopsy. Toxicology testing is pending. Scientific identification is also moving forward with the assistance of the Crystal Lake Police Department and Illinois State Police, according to the coroner's office.

The Crystal Lake Police Department and McHenry County Coroner’s Office is continuing to investigate the death.
