Police ID Driver Who Crashed Into Crystal Lake Home, Injured Resident
Connor C. Kirkpatrick, 27, has suffered from a medical condition following the crash that has left him unable to communicate, police said.
CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Authorities have identified the 27-year-old driver whose car crashed into a home last week in Crystal Lake, severely injuring a resident who was showering inside the house.
Police say injuries from the crash have left Connor C. Kirkpatrick, 27, of Crystal Lake, with a medical condition, which leaves him unable to communicate with anyone. Investigators are processing and examining evidence collected from the scene and data collected from the vehicle and other electronic devices, but "several questions regarding this crash" have not yet been answered, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department.
Kirkpatrick's sport utility vehicle crashed into a detached garage and a house in the 100 block of Heather Drive around 7 p.m. July 27. The SUV was heading east on Ballard Road when it went through the intersection at Briarwood Drive and, for unknown reasons, left the roadway and hit the home.

Kirkpatrick was extricated by Crystal Lake Fire/Rescue and flown to Condell Hospital with life-threatening injuries. An adult inside the home was also flown to Condell with life-threatening injuries.
Angelo Pleotis, 64, who lives at the involved residence, was also trapped and had to be freed from the wreckage. Pleotis was in the shower when the vehicle hit his house. He was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center, according to the Lake/McHenry Scanner.

Pleotis suffered collapsed lungs, broken ribs, head trauma, lacerations and two spinal fracture dislocations, which caused paralysis.
It is unknown if the man will be able to walk again.

The Crystal Lake Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash and is asking anyone with information regarding the collision to call them at 815-356-3620. In addition, anyone with a cell phone can send an anonymous tip to the Crystal Lake Police Department by texting the word CLPDTIP along with the tip information to 847411 (tip411).
