MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A "quiet, friendly" neighborhood became the scene of a domestic attack this past week as four household members were found dead inside a home on West Plum Road in unincorporated Crystal Lake.

A man believed to be the "aggressor" in the attack, Jean Song, 44, is among those dead — he was found seriously injured at the home at 5805 Wild Plum Road after deputies arrived shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Song has no history of a criminal record in McHenry County, according to online court records. And sheriff's office officials say they have never been called to the home at any point in the past, the Associated Press is reporting.

Authorities found three women dead inside the home. They have been identified as: Chang Song, 73; Yuna Song, 49; and Lauren Smith-Song, 32. Authorities have not released how the household members are related to each other.

The woman who survived was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. No updates on her condition were available as of late Friday afternoon.

The neighborhood where the shooting occurred is described as "quiet and friendly," neighbors told the Chicago Tribune. Charlie Ayers, a treasurer for the homeowners' association, said he's never noticed anything strange at the house where the domestic incident occurred.

He said there's a mix of older people and young families who live in the neighborhood, according to the article.

“We really look after each other. So, for this to happen is really out of character,” he told the Chicago Tribune.

Holly Cote referred to her neighborhood as a "tight-knit community," according to the Daily Herald.

Neighbors reported they were in shock over the incident happening in their neighborhood.

“It’s very, very eerie. Just the thought that while I was sleeping, just a few hundred yards away, this all took place,” Betsy Brennan told NBC 5.
