Police Save Man In Wheelchair From House Fire: Officials
Officers came to the rescue of two people trapped inside a house on fire in Crystal Lake Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.
CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Police officers rescued two residents from a house fire on Cambridge Place in Crystal Lake on Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department was called to the blaze in the 800 block of Cambridge Place at about 3:10 p.m. for a structure fire. While responding, fire crews learned there were two people inside the residence and police were attempting to get them out.
"Four officers entered the structure and removed the two occupants. Both were elderly people and one was an invalid in a wheelchair," Mark Menzel, deputy chief of operations and EMS for the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department, told Patch.

By the time fire crews arrived at the scene, police had rescued the residents and confirmed that no one else was inside. Firefighters then rescued one cat from the home and brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes.
The home has been deemed uninhabitable, and the Red Cross was requested to assist the residents with housing, according to the news release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
