Authorities Work to ID Person Found Dead in Pond Near OfficeMax In Crystal Lake: UPDATE

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The Crystal Lake Police Department is investigating the death of a person whose body was found Monday in a retention pond in front of OfficeMax in Crystal Lake. Authorities were called to the pond in the 4400 block of Northwest Highway Monday morning. When they arrived they found a person, who was dead, in the pond, Crystal Lake police said.

Detectives and officers immediately began an investigation to determine the the circumstances surrounding the death, according to authorities. The death remains under investigation by the police department and the McHenry County Coroner's Office.

Police have "no reason to believe a threat to the public exists," authorities said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning to determine the cause of death, McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said. Majewski said late Monday the person had not yet been identified.
