Rare Northern Harrier Returns To Wild After Rehab in McHenry County

The bird was found injured and underweight, but after weeks of care by the McHenry County Conservation District, it has released from care.

A state‑endangered Northern harrier was found underweight and disoriented in a McHenry County conservation area and taken in by the McHenry County Conservation District for care.

The wildlife team determined the bird had suffered a concussion, helped it regain strength and monitored its recovery, according to Shaw Local. After about three weeks of nursing, the harrier was successfully released back into the wild.

This marked the first time the district had rehabilitated a Northern harrier, one of many injured animals they assist each year, according to the article.
