Recycling Drive In McHenry Co. Is Next Weekend

You can plan to unload unused or unwanted electronics at the Oct. 19 event.

McHenry Co.: The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County will be joining the McHenry County Department of Health at the FOURTH and last one-day recycling event of the year. The County will be collecting electronics as well as batteries and The Defenders will collect clean Styrofoam, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, clothing and textiles as well as VHS and cassette tapes. The event will take place from 8AM to NOON on Saturday, October 19 at McHenry County College, 8900 US Highway 14, Crystal Lake. We will require a donation of $.50 for each 4-ft. tube and bulb and $1.00 for each tube exceeding 4 feet.

In addition to drives being offered, a permanent collection site in McHenry County is Elgin Recycling, 5114 Terra Cotta Avenue, Crystal Lake, 847-741-4100, which is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM, and Saturday, 8AM to 1PM. Elgin Recycling will charge $15.00 for each TV and monitor screen no larger than 20 inches and $25.00 for each screen 21 inches and over. Another collection site is Prairieland Disposal, 2121 South River Road, Holiday Hills, 847-381-9300, which is open the first Saturday of the Month that does not have a holiday preceding the Saturday. They are open 8AM to Noon. This site will charge $15.00 for TV and monitor screens no larger than 20 inches, $25.00 for screens 21-36 inches, $55.00 for items 40-49 pounds, and $85.00 for items over 50 pounds.

The Environmental Defenders along with partners, sponsors three collection sites for clean Styrofoam at the following locations: Village of Algonquin 110 Meyer Drive Algonquin Public Works Open 24-7; Algonquin Township Highway Department 3702 US HWY 14 Open 7 AM to 3 PM Mon. - Fri.; and City of Woodstock Public Works 326 Washington Street, Woodstock 7:30 AM to 3 PM. Monetary donations for this program welcome on-line at www.mcdef.org.
