Registration is Open for MCCD Activities
Mark your calendar for upcoming fun events through your local conservation district.
From MCCD: Thursday, June 6 from 10–11:30 am at Lakewood Shelter, Exner Marsh Conservation Area, Lakewood & Miller Roads, Lake in the Hills. Enjoy an hour and a half of fun including a game, craft, snack and other educational activities all based around the special theme of the day. Wear sturdy closed toe shoes suitable for hiking. Fee: County Resident Free/NR $5.00. Just for Kids ages 2–6, with chaperone. Registration required.
Lunch and Learn Kayak Trip
Saturday, June 8 from 11:30 am–4:30 pm at Nippersink Canoe Trail, Keystone Road Landing in Glacial Park, 6500 Keystone Rd., Richmond. Join us for a catered picnic lunch and learn all about the lives of the various mussel species that inhabit the Nippersink Creek. After lunch explore the creek by kayak. The kayak portion of this trip is self-guided. Participants must have the physical ability to paddle for seven miles and the skills to navigate the meandering course. The trip ends at Pioneer Landing where staff meet you to pick up your kayak and answer questions you may have about what you saw on your journey. All kayaking equipment is provided. Kayaks are singles only. Fee: County Resident $30.00/NR $38.00. Just for Adults, ages 14 years and older. Registration required.
Nature’s Trail Time
Tuesday, June 11 from 10–11:30 am at Rush Creek Conservation Area, 20501 McGuire Road, Harvard. Children ages 6 through 13 are invited to join us on a guided hike along the trails, exploring and finding nature’s treasures. Do you have younger children who would enjoy exploring nature with you? Younger children/siblings can enjoy a separate but simultaneous program, Nature’s Play Time with an adult chaperone. Fee: County Resident Free/NR $5.00. Just for Kids ages 6–13. Registration required.

Nature’s Play Time
Tuesday, June 11 from 10–11:30 am at Rush Creek Conservation Area, 20501 McGuire Road, Harvard. Nature provides an ideal place where children can learn and grow. In nature’s classroom children participate in activity stations, identifying and sorting shapes and colors, practicing fine and gross motor skills, and working with various textures and patterns using natural materials. A snack is provided. Don’t forget a water bottle, sunscreen, and long sleeves and pants if bugs are bad. Children ages 6-13 can attend a simultaneous program, Nature’s Trail Time, without an adult chaperone. Fee: County Resident Free/NR $5.00. Just for Kids ages Infant–5, with chaperone. Registration required.
Birding Goose Lake
Tuesday, June 11 from 6:30–8:30 pm at North Branch Conservation Area, 11500 North Keystone Rd., Richmond. Join bird enthusiast Dave Miller and staff as we explore the high quality birding at Goose Lake. We’ll meet at the North Branch Conservation Area parking lot and transfer to District vans to carpool to the site. Space is limited. Registration is required. Fee: County Resident Free/NR $2.00. Just for Adults, ages 14 years and older. Registration required.

Explore: Birds
Tuesday, June 18 from 2–3:00 pm at Stickney Run Conservation Area, 3216 West State Park Road, McHenry. Join us for this fun-filled, short hike at Stickney Run. We will search for birds and other wildlife as we hike along this fairly flat trail. Binoculars will be provided so we can take a closer look at some of the birds we will see while hiking. Fee: County Resident Free/NR $2.00. For Adults and Families. Registration required.
Luminary Bike Ride
Friday, June 21 from 8–10:00 pm at East (Main) Entrance of Fel-Pro RRR Conservation Area, 1520 Crystal Lake Rd., Cary. Let luminaries light your way as you cycle this moderately hilly paved loop, less than one mile long. Ride the trail once or enjoy several laps with candlelight and glorious colors of sunset illuminating your path, and sounds of nature at night entertaining your ears. Relax at the campfire with sweet treats. Don’t forget your helmet. Fee: County Resident Free/NR $5.00. For Adults and Families. Registration required.
