Results From Distracted Driving Campaign Released

The Crystal Lake Police Department participated in a statewide effort as part of distracted driving awareness month.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The Crystal Lake Police Department recently conducted a distracted driving enforcement campaign.

During the traffic campaign in April, police issued 12 citations for distracted driving and 12 other traffic citations for speeding, seat belt requirements and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. One person was arrested for possession of a fictitious or altered driver's license, according to a news release from the police department.

April is distracted driving awareness month, and the Crystal Lake Police Department joined forces with law enforcement agencies across the state in an effort "to stop motorists from engaging in deadly behavior," according to a news release from the police department.

It is illegal in Illinois to use your phone while driving in anything other than "hands-free mode," authorities said. The Illinois distracted driving campaign was funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
