Scots Hoops Come Up Short Against Elgin

Needing a win to avoid falling below the .500 mark in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play, men’s basketball team hosted Elgin Community College Saturday afternoon inside Tartan Gym.

The Scots fell behind early, including falling behind by as much as 17, before rallying to pull within four but couldn’t take the lead in a 79-70 loss.

Elgin controlled the game from the start, jumping out to a 46-33 halftime lead and increased their lead to 55-38 before MCC tried to rally. MCC got as close as 65-61 with 6:24 to play but ECC then pulled away again to get the win.

Mershon Wilkes scored 19 points to lead MCC (9-12, 3-4). Eric Wilde hit four three-pointers during his 14-point night. Jermarkus Lovett added 13 in the loss.

Oakton Community College will visit at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Women Scots Give Spartans a Scare

It has been a long season for McHenry County College’s women’s basketball team but Saturday afternoon the Scots put together one of their best efforts of the season.

The Scots still fell at home against Elgin Community College 76-63.

MCC (2-21, 0-7) fell behind by 13 in the first half but went on a 20-6 run to end the half to take a 31-30 lead into the break.

MCC would lead by five early in the second half and would hold onto the lead with 10 minutes left before Elgin was able to pull away.

Chrishaya Dixon and Jerrica Graham each had 14 points while Alyssa Haayer added 13 and Maggie Friday had 10 points to lead MCC.

Cassie Dumoulin had 28 points to lead ECC while Carly Saraceno added 23.

The Scots will host Oakton Community College 5:15 p.m Tuesday.
