MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — The McHenry County Conservation District is hiring for several seasonal positions. Here is a look at the jobs that are open:
Park maintenance seasonal: Pay is $15 per hour. Do you want to spend your summer outdoors? The Park Maintenance position is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the sunshine surrounded by sounds of nature, according to the conservation district. Assist experienced park rangers in daily maintenance of the McHenry County Conservation District sites with a beautiful woodland backdrop. The conservation district is looking for someone with previous experience in landscape or park maintenance work including the ability to use power tools and maintenance equipment or willingness to learn.
Outdoor education program leader: Pay is $13 to 14 per hour. Are you looking for a chance to combine work, fun, and the outdoors? Working with the education services team as a summer camp and public program leader is a great way to gain experience in environmental education and make a positive impact. You can share your knowledge and passion for the natural environment with diverse audiences. The conservation district is looking for someone with a flexible
schedule to work some evenings and weekends. Completion of at least two years of a bachelor’s degree in environmental education or related field along with six months of experience working with children and/or leading conservation-related programs, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Natural resource field seasonal: Pay is $15 per hour. Gain real life experience in the natural resources field by working alongside skilled ecologists! Spend the summer working outside with a team in a pristine natural resources environment while expanding your knowledge in areas such as native plants, herbicide use, and ecological restoration. The conservation district is looking for an applicant with some background in ecological restoration experience is preferred. Additionally, anyone in the process of obtaining a college degree with at least one-year course work in the field of biology, environmental science, or natural resources or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Wildlife resource center seasonal: Pay is $13 per hour. Do you love animals? This position contributes to the care of the resident raptors, reptiles, feeder colonies, as well as any rehabilitating wildlife species of conservation concern. You would participate in the Blanding’s turtle and smooth green snake head-starting projects as well as the bluebird trail monitoring
program. You will also get to contribute to environmental education programs and development of program materials/wildlife artifacts. You will get to enhance your communication and customer service skills in responding to wildlife related inquiries from the public. The conservation district is looking for someone with a passion for wildlife who is working toward a bachelor’s degree or a beginning professional in biology, environmental education or a related field.
