It's a rare feat, but two Crystal Lake South students so far this year have earned a score of 36 on the ACT.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL - Teresa Fisher, a junior at Crystal Lake South High School, was determined to get a perfect score on the ACT.
“I have taken the ACT many times. I took my first one sophomore year. This was probably my fifth time. I kept getting a 35. I knew I could get a perfect score, given all the previous scores,” said Teresa Fisher.

On Friday, May 13, Teresa received a letter notifying her that she earned a 36 on the ACT she took at school in April. She finally achieved her goal.
“I received a letter with exactly how many students received a perfect score. It hasn’t really sunk in; my family is really excited," she said. "Now I can do other things with my Saturdays.”

The letter states that less than one-tenth of one percent of all test takers earn the top score. In the class of 2015, only 1,598 out of 1.92 million that took the test earned a composite score of a 36.
Teresa is currently taking several advanced placement courses including AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C, AP Language and Composition, AP Psychology, and band. Next year, she will take AP German IV, AP Economics, AP Biology, AP Computer Science, and Calculus III at McHenry County College.
She’s also involved with tech crew, WYSE, math team, and plays flute in the Crystal Lake South band.
This summer Teresa will spend four weeks at MIT. She was admitted to the 2016 Women’s Technology Program in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She was one of 40 young women selected from 503 applicants.
“There are not a lot of girls in STEM. I can’t wait to be in a program for young women that promotes a non-judgmental environment. I can’t wait to meet people who really love science. It’s going to be awesome to have a lot of people who are really excited and understand the implications of science.”
Teresa visited several colleges. She’s most interested in applying to MIT and California Institute of Technology. She’s still undecided on a major but definitely wants to study science. The program at MIT this summer will expose her to several fields.
“It’s part of developing a well-rounded discipline before deciding what I want to go into. I’m trying all of them before I have to chose to specialize in college," she said.
Teresa Fisher is the second student at Crystal Lake South recently to score a perfect score on the ACT. Jacob Anderson, currently a senior, scored a perfect score earlier this year.
“This is a rare accomplishment, and it is impressive to have two students at Crystal Lake South, in the same year, achieve a perfect score. It is truly a testament to our students’ dedication and self-confidence,” said Superintendent Johnnie Thomas.
