Several 155, 47 Buses Fail IDOT Surprise Inspection: Report
Nineteen of the buses failed the inspection, according to an IDOT report.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – The results from recent Crystal Lake Elementary School District 47 and Community High School District 155 bus inspections, which made headlines after a mechanic hid 10 of the buses before IDOT could take a closer look, have been released. Nineteen of the buses failed the surprise inspections and eight of those buses had violations considered serious enough that Illinois Department of Transportation ordered the vehicles temporarily be put of service until fixes could be completed, according to Freedom of Information Act documents and a report released to the Northwest Herald.
IDOT issued warnings for eleven of the failing buses, according to the Northwest Herald report. Those violations must now be fixed in 30 days.
In total 85 buses were inspected in mid-October 2017, according to the article. Some of the violations included: three buses with exhaust leaks, an unsecured fire exit, a leaking fuel tank and two buses that did not meet IDOT's standards for tire tread depth.
