Several Suburban Companies Planning To Close, Lay Off Employees In Coming Weeks
Fourteen Illinois companies will close or lay off workers in coming weeks.

Several suburban companies will be laying off employees in the coming months. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity in its monthly WARN reports listed 14 companies in Illinois planning to close and/or give their workers pink slips.
Under state law, employers must notify the state when they plan to lay off workers. This law is known as the WARN Act or Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

- Amcor Rigid Plastics LLC, at 1300 South River St. in Batavia, is planning to close and lay off 110 employees. The first layoff date for the plastic bottle manufacturing company will occur in September, and the ending layoff date will be in March, according to the WARN report.
- CORPAK Medsystems, Inc., at 1001 Asbury Drive in Buffalo Grove, will be closing. The surgical and medical instrument manufacturing company will lay off 81 employees starting in September with the final layoff date slated for December.
- Sears, at 1601 North Harlem Ave. in Chicago, will be laying off 116 employees in September and closing.
- Aramark, at 1600 W. Glen Flora Ave. in Waukegan, reported closing and laying off 117 employees on July 31.
- Flood damage will force Westmoreland Nursing Center, 600 N. Westmoreland Road in Lake Forest, planned to close and lay off 84 employees this past week.
- Pacific Coast Feather Company, at 414 East Golf Coast Road in Des Plaines, plans to close. In total, 29 employees will be laid off in September, according to the company.
