A nasty mix of freezing rain and wind is contributing to power outages throughout the suburbs Monday.

ComEd crews were responding to reports of power outages throughout the area. More than 700 customers are affected in the Woodridge area in DuPage County, according to the ComEd outage map. Most towns are only reporting small pockets of outages while others have been harder hit. In Streamwood, over 200 ComEd customers were without power Monday afternoon while 184 customers were without power in Maywood, according to ComEd’s map.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning through 6 p.m. tonight. Freezing rain is expected through this afternoon before eventually slowing to rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Wind gusts as high as 50 mph could result in a heightened risk for power outages wherever ice has accumulated on power lines and tree limbs. A high wind warning is in effect until 7 p.m.

A lakeshore flood warning is in effect until midnight, and flood advisories have been issued for all of the region’s major rivers and waterways.
