Sex Offender Charged With Sexually Assaulting Minor

Crystal Lake Police initially launched an investigation into Tyler Arcos after he was found in a park with the minor.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – Crystal Lake police launched an investigation into a sex offender found hanging out in a local park with a minor and later learned he had a sexual relationship with her, according to a news release from the police department. Tyler S. Arcos, 21 of 939 Sheffield Drive in Crystal Lake, now faces charges of aggravated criminal sex abuse, a class 2 felony; and unlawful failure to register as a sex offender, a class 3 felony. Arcos was arrested Thursday on a warrant following an ongoing investigation into Arcos' "sexual conduct with a female minor," according to the news release.

The matter initially came to the police department's attention after Crystal Lake Park District police learned Arcos was present in a park, which is violation of his sex offender prohibitions according to police. Park District police said he was with a minor at the time, according to the news release.

Detectives initiated an investigation into Arcos’ relationship with the minor and discovered evidence of indecent solicitation of a child over the use of social media, police said. Detectives also learned Arcos had failed to register social media accounts, as well as his vehicle, to the Chief of Police of Crystal Lake as required by Illinois law.

Arcos reportedly first made contact with the female minor through Instagram and other social media venues on or around this past February, and had been communicating with the minor since, according to authorities. The conversation between the minor and Arcos became inappropriate in nature, which resulted in Arcos gaining the trust of the minor over a period of time.

Authorities also learned there was sexual conduct between Arcos and the minor. Arcos remains in custody on a $60,000 bail.
