Bail Set at $1.5M for Man Charged in Fatal Shooting
The murder charges stem from a Wednesday night shooting in Spring Grove, authorities said.

SPRING GROVE, IL — A 47-year-old Spring Grove man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, authorities in McHenry County said Thursday evening. John Maki Jr., 47, is being held at the McHenry County Jail on a $1.5 million bail and has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The charges stem from an incident that occurred in the 11100 block of Serenity Path in Spring Grove Wednesday night.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County courts names the shooting victim as Dylan Sanchez, 47, the Northwest Herald reports. Maki Jr. is accused of shooting Sanchez in the head.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the 1100 block of Serenity Drive to assist the fire department at about 7:15 p.m., according to a news release. When they arrived, they found Maki Jr. and the man who had been fatally shot inside the home.

The Spring Grove Police Department, Illinois State Police, the Spring Grove Fire Protection District, and Richmond Fire Protection District also responded to the scene, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
An investigation was launched and the McHenry County Major Investigation Assistance Team was activated, which lead to the arrest of Maki Jr. He is expected in court at 8 a.m. Friday.
