Squirrels Found in Deputy's Car During Maintenance Check

The baby squirrels were rescued and reunited with their mother.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL - A McHenry County Sheriff's Office deputy got quite the surprise when four baby squirrels were discovered in the wheel well of his squad car. The squirrels were discovered when the deputy brought his squad ca r in to have a headlight fixed, according to a message on the sheriff's office Facebook page.

The mechanics were able to safely remove the four squirrels and their nest and did so without waking them up, according to the sheriff's office. The babies were returned to the deputy’s house where they were reunited with their "worried momma," according to the Facebook page.

"We just never know who might be getting a ride in one of our squad cars," according to sheriff's office officials.
