Vehicle Burglaries, Stolen Car Reported In Cary, Crystal Lake
Authorities are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and to make sure not to leave any key fobs inside an unlocked car.
CARY, IL — The Cary Police Department is investigating a string of attempted burglaries as well as reports of people entering and stealing items from vehicles that happened during the early morning hours on Thursday. According to police, a car was also stolen from a driveway and then used to commit similar crimes in town and neighboring jurisdictions.
The incidents happened in a residential area in northeast section of the village, police said. In Crystal Lake, authorities shared video from a ring camera that happened at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday and showed at least two people walking up driveways and down the road pulling on the handles of car doors. Following the Cary reports, authorities say residents with newer model vehicles may not lock their car if there is a spare key fob inside the vehicle, and that they should never leave a key inside an unlocked vehicle.
"These are typically crimes of opportunity, and in the majority of cases the offender(s) will bypass a locked vehicle to attempt to find an unlocked vehicle," authorities reported in a news release Thursday.
