Teen Busted After Stolen Vehicle Crashes On I-90: Police

The Woodstock teen is accused of stealing a vehicle from the parking lot of the Rosati's Pizza in Cary last week.

CARY, IL — A Woodstock teen accused of stealing a car from the parking lot of a Rosati's Pizza in Cary Friday evening is behind bars, police said.

Luis Gonzalez-Garcia, 18, was among the occupants inside the stolen car when it rolled over and crashed on Interstate 90 in the Elgin area on Sunday, according to a news release from the Cary Police Department. Everyone inside the car fled the scene but authorities were able to catch up to Gonzalez-Garcia and take him into custody.

He was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and then to the McHenry County Correctional Facility where he is being held on two warrants as well as on the new theft charges.

Officers were first called to the Rosati's Pizza, in the 300 block of Cary-Algonquin Road, at about 5:15 p.m. on Friday for report of a vehicle that was stolen. An employee said he returned to the business after making a delivery and left his unlocked vehicle running with the keys in the ignition.

While he was inside the business, a witness said two men entered the employee's vehicle and drove out of the parking lot, according to authorities. Using witness statements and video surveillance from the scene, officers were able to get a description of the two men who entered and stole the vehicle.

The Cary Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident and is trying to identify the second person who assisted with the vehicle theft. Meanwhile, authorities are reminding the community to not leave their vehicle running and unlocked and to not leave valuables in plain view inside a vehicle.
