Bond Set At $5M For Shooter In Crystal Lake Murder: UPDATE

The 31-year-old Crystal Lake man remains in custody for murder in connection with the fatal shooting of his wife and her sister.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Bond has been set at $5 million for the 31-year-old shooter accused of killing his wife and her sister in a Crystal Lake home Thursday, according to media reports. Allania S. Yarber of Crystal Lake and a 15-year-old girl, who has not been identified, died of multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said. The shooting occurred after an argument turned violent at a home in the 100 block of Marian Parkway.

Assistant State's Attorney Kyle Bruett argued for the high bond Saturday, stating Yarber could be a flight risk, according to the Northwest Hearld. Yarber's family recently moved from Oregon to Crystal Lake. The 31-year-old man must post 10 percent of his $5 million bond, or $500,000, to be released.

Police were first called to the home just after 8 p.m. on Thursday for a report of a female armed with a knife. While authorities were on their way, they learned there was also a male with a handgun at the residence.

When police arrived , they found the woman and teen with multiple gunshot wounds. NBC Chicago reports the shooting victims were relatives — possibly sisters. Police tried to resuscitate the teen and women, but both were pronounced dead at the scene.

An 11-year-old neighbor boy was at the home when Yarber and his wife began to argue. Juan Viveros told CBS Chicagohe was there playing video games with two boys, ages 6 and 9, who lived in the residence in the 100 block of Marian Parkway.

"Their mom and dad got into a fight. They just started screaming at each other, and saying bad words to each other. And then, soon we heard a scream downstairs. And then we heard bangs, loud bangs," Juan told ABC Chicago.

Viveros said his friends were in a locked room with him when police arrived at the scene, according to NBC Chicago. Officers told his friend "your mom and aunt have passed away," according to the news report.

Authorities also told the children they were safe and then covered their heads with blankets as they led them out of the house so they wouldn't have to see the crime scene, according to ABC 7 news.

Police took Yarber into custody on four counts of first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting. Yarber remained in custody as of Saturday afternoon, according to online jails records.

Police believe the shooting is an isolated incident but did not elaborate on what may have led to the shooting.

"There is no concern for public safety at this time," Deputy Chief Thomas Kotlowski said in a news release.
