Teens Charged In Woodstock Square Shooting Incident
Authorities said two teens stole a handgun from a car over the weekend and then sold it to a 17-year-old.

WOODSTOCK, IL – Three teens face charges after two of them stole a handgun from a car in Woodstock over the weekend and then sold that gun to a different teen. Shortly after the transaction, police received a report of shots fired in the 100 block of East Van Buren Street in Woodstock Square at about 1 p.m. on Sunday, according to a news release from the Woodstock Police Department. Officers responding to the incident found a handgun lying on the ground.
They also allegedly located the 17-year-old boy in the immediate vicinity of the shooting incident, authorities said. He was taken into custody and transported to the Woodstock Police Department, according to the news release.

During the investigation, officers learned a 13-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy were also allegedly involved and took them into custody for questioning, according to the news release. The boys are accused of taking part in several car burglaries over the weekend. Authorities found evidence from the burglaries, which they recovered and secured as evidence, according to a news release.
The younger teens then arranged to sell the handgun to the older teen for an undisclosed amount of money in the 100 block of East Van Buren Street, according to authorities. Soon after, a single round was discharged from the gun. Authorities said there is nothing that indicates that more than one round was fired.

The following charges have been filed against the teens, whose names are not being released because they are juveniles:
17-year-old boy
- Reckless Discharge of a Firearm – Class 4 Felony
- Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Class 4 Felony
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Firearm Ammo – Class 4 Felony
- Unlawful Use of Weapons – Class A Misdemeanor
14-year-old boy
- Burglary to Motor Vehicle – Class 3 Felony
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Firearm Ammo – Class 4 Felony
- Criminal Trespass to Vehicle – Class A Misdemeanor
13-year-old male
- Unlawful Sale or Delivery of Firearms – Class 2 Felony
- Burglary to Motor Vehicle – Class 3 Felony
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Firearm Ammo – Class 4 Felony
- Criminal Trespass to Vehicle – Class A Misdemeanor
