TLC Announces “Together Tuesday” Volunteer Events on June 23

Together Tuesday encourages people to come together, strengthen their communities and find meaningful ways to support one another.

The Land Conservancy of McHenry County (TLC) invites the public to join in three volunteer events on “Together Tuesday” June 23. Together Tuesday is a day that encourages people to come together, strengthen their communities and find meaningful ways to support one another. Guests can choose whether to participate in one event, or all three. Registration (free) is encouraged so participants can be notified in case of inclement weather. Walk-ins are welcome. Weeding Workday at the Mariposa Meander Pollinator Garden in Woodstock

Date/time: June 23, 10:30 a.m.-noon. Celebrate National Pollinator Week by caring for this public garden!

Activities: Pulling weeds in a garden (level ground).

Materials to bring: Gardening gloves, trowel or handheld hoe, kneeling pad, water bottle, box if you’d like to bring plants home that you dig from trail, etc.

Ryders Woods Volunteer Restoration Workday

Location: Ryders Wood Park, park in main parking lot off Kimball Ave (navigate to 713 E Kimball Ave, Woodstock, IL). Location is next to the Mariposa Meander Pollinator Garden.

Date/time: June 23, 9:00 a.m. – noon
Activities we’ll be helping with may include (weather dependent):

  • Cutting brush and small trees with gas/electric chainsaws and/or loppers, hauling cut brush & material to piles for burning
  • Pulling weeds or collecting seeds (if ready)
  • Spraying invasive plants
  • Picking up garbage near parking lot

Materials to bring: leather gloves, sturdy shoes, loppers, safety glasses, hearing protection, water, bug spray. TLC will have these materials (minus footwear) to borrow if needed.

Extreme Makeover: TLC HQ Garden Edition

The areas around the farmhouse at Hennen (TLC’s office) are in great need of a spruce up!

Location of Clean-Up: TLC’s Headquarters is located at Hennen Conservation Area, 4622 Dean Street, Woodstock.

Date/Time: June 23, 1:30-3:00 p.m.

Activities we’ll be helping with: Removing weedy trees and vines from around the house and buildings where TLC’s office is located.


Materials to bring: Gardening gloves, loppers, hand clippers, water bottle
