Join The Land Conservancy of McHenry County (TLC) and Woodstock-based poetry group the Atrocious Poets for a collaborative Gwendolyn Brooks poetry walk, “Wild Woodstock Walks: The Land Speaks (In Verse)” on Saturday, May 4 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Donato Conservation Area, 700 Ridgeland Ave. in Woodstock.

The hike is part of One City, One Poet, a month-long celebration hosted by the Atrocious Poets for National Poetry Month. This year the group’s events feature Chicago-based poet Gwendolyn Brooks. The hike is free, and no registration is required. Participants will listen to Brooks’ poems along the half-mile trail and learn about various ecological features of the site.

Nestled between two subdivisions, Donato Conservation Area is a 25-acre site that features an oak woodland, wetland with frogs and many native spring wildflowers. Attendees will be encouraged to listen, look and be inspired by the nature and poetry at the site.
