Discover fire’s role in conserving prairies, woodlands and wetlands at the “Learn to Burn” training class hosted by The Land Conservancy of McHenry County Saturday, April 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hennen Conservation Area in Woodstock. The class size is limited to 15, and participants should bring a lunch. The deadline to register is March 31.

Participants will receive detailed training related to prescribed burns from TLC’s restoration ecologist Megan Oropeza. Those attending will work indoors and outdoors, and are encouraged to dress accordingly. A classroom training session will occur first, followed by an outdoor hands-on workshop.

Prescribed burns clear away dead brush and invasive species while ensuring healthy habitats. The instructor will discuss important ecological benefits, specific tools and safety measures related to prescribed burns. Safety equipment will be provided for participants.
