Trick-Or-Treating In Crystal Lake, Cary: What You Need To Know

Halloween is just weeks away, and Crystal Lake and Cary have set recommended trick-or-treat hours for 3 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31.

CRYSTAL LAKE AND CARY, IL — It will soon be time to stock up on candy and get those Halloween costumes out. Trick-or-treating in Crystal Lake and Cary is just a couple weeks away.

City officials in Crystal Lake have set recommended trick-or-treat hours for 3 to 7 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31, which falls on a Sunday this year. City officials are recommending residents follow these tips if they plan to hand out candy or take their children trick-or-treating:

  • Turn on your porch lights to show that your home is welcoming trick-or-treaters
  • Remind children not to ring the doorbell if a light is not on as some families may feel uncomfortable participating in trick-or-treating.
  • Review with children how to call 9-1-1 if they have an emergency or become lost.
  • Walk on sidewalks and stay in well-lit areas
  • .Make sure that everyone understands they should stay in a group.
  • Wear glow-in-the-dark accessories, help your children check their candy and throw out any candy with torn packaging or holes in the packaging.
  • If you consume alcohol at an event or party, be sure to plan a safe ride home.

Cary has also set its recommended trick-or-treat hours for 3 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31, according to the Cary-Grove Area Chamber of Commerce website.

Downtown Crystal Lake businesses will be handing out candy from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29. Participating merchants throughout downtown Crystal Lake will open their doors to invite children ages 12 years and under in to receive a treat.

The Cary Park District will host its trick-or-treat trail in Lions Park from 1 to 2 p.m. on Oct. 16. There will be games, prizes and children and parents are encouraged to dress up. The cost is $6 to attend and pre-registration is required.
