Trout Valley Driver Killed In High-Speed Crash Near Palatine

Tyler D. Smith, 27, and another vehicle appeared to be street racing before the weekend accident happened, a witness says.

PALATINE, IL — A McHenry County man was killed in a high-speed crash over the weekend near Palatine when he lost control of the sports car he was driving, the Northwest Herald reports. Tyler D. Smith, 23, of Trout Valley, died in the accident at about 3 p.m. Sunday near Algonquin and Roselle roads, the report stated.

According to the Cook County Sheriff's Office, Smith, who was driving a Chevrolet Corvette, and another vehicle were speeding west alongside one another on Algonguin Road when Smith hit the curb, sending him into a wall and trees, the report stated. The driver of the other vehicle did not stop after the accident and continued driving west, the report added. Investigators don't believe there was a collision between the two vehicles, according to the report.

Smith was taken to Northwest Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the report stated. A witness told the Daily Herald that it looked like the two vehicles were street racing when Smith's Corvette drove off the road and flipped. The accident is still under investigation.

A Cary-Grove High School graduate, Smith was attending McHenry County College, and his Facebook page said he was a car enthusiast, the Northwest Herald reports.
