UPDATE: Police Manhunt Under Way After 2 McHenry Deputies Shot

Two McHenry County sheriff’s deputies have been hospitalized after being shot after responding to a domestic-related situation in Holiday Hills.

The deputies were called to check the well-being of residents at a home in the 1300 block of N. East Shore Drive in Holiday Hills at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday when they were both shot, police said. Shots were fired through the door, and then the door was opened and the attacker continued to shoot at the officers with a rifle.

Police are searching for Scott Peters, 52, who has light hair, blue eyes, is 5 foot 10 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. Police say he’s “armed and dangerous” and now wanted on two counts of attempted murder and 2 counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. Peters’ wife and daughter were in the home but managed to get out safely and are in protective custody, according to police.

A 12-year female veteran of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was taken to Centegra McHenry and is in stable condition. A seven-year male veteran was taken to Advocate Condell in Libertyville where he was in critical, but stable condition, and was undergoing surgery, according to a McHenry County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Just before 8 a.m., police reported that two occupants of the residence were able to safely get out of the home.

The sheriff’s office is working with affected area residents on evacuation and making sure they are safe. They are receiving assistance from local police departments and the Illinois State Police.

Holiday Hills is a small community of about 800 residents located about 9 miles northeast of Crystal Lake.
