Village Weighs Disbanding Police Department, Outsourcing Services

HOLIDAY HILLS, IL — Holiday Hills is considering permanently disbanding its police department and contracting with either the McHenry County Sheriff's Office or Island Lake Police Department for law enforcement services, according to Shaw Local.

The move follows the indictment of former Police Chief William Copp, 54, on 12 felony counts of official misconduct alleging he improperly used license plate readers and a law enforcement database to track people for personal reasons. Copp has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

For now, the McHenry County Sheriff's Office is providing emergency and non-emergency police services under a temporary agreement that was extended through Sept. 30 at a rate of $70 an hour, Shaw Local is reporting.

Village trustees are expected to choose between the two agencies before the temporary agreement expires, with the sheriff's office proposing $100-an-hour patrols and Island Lake offering an annual fee for around-the-clock coverage, according to the article.
