Funeral Service Held Wednesday for Crystal Lake Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash

Billy Orris, son of the pastors at Hope Church in Crystal Lake, died Friday afternoon in a motorcycle crash.

A 26-year-old Crystal Lake man who is the son of two local pastors died last week in a motorcycle crash in Hoffman Estates.

Wiliam ”Billy” Orris was the son of Rev. Bill Orris and Rev. Lisa Orris, according to the Daily Herald. The pastors live in Crystal Lake and preach at Hope Church.

Billy Orris was out shopping for his brother Michael’s birthday when a car collided with his motorcycle in Hoffman Estates on Friday afternoon, according to the article.

Billy, a Palatine High School graduate, is remembered as a smart and loving outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and exercising his chocolate Labrador retriever, the newspaper reports.

“Billy was a passionate man, who deeply loved his family and a committed disciple of Jesus Christ. He was larger than life, determined to live fiercely for his family and friends,” according to Billy’s obituary.

The obituary goes on to note that Billy’s “life verse” was Psalm 144 versus 1 and 2: “Praise to the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in who I take refuge.”

The death comes a week after Rev. Bill Orris and Rev. Lisa Orris learned a car had crashed through their church on Aug. 1 -- damaging the nursery and sanctuary at Hope Church.

The church was unoccupied at the time of the accident and no one was injured.

A visitation for Billy will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Davenport Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. in Crystal Lake. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am at Hope Church, 451 Ackman Road.

A burial ceremony will be held immediately following the service.

An online fund-raiser has been set to help the Orris family pay for funeral costs. As of Monday morning, over $8,900 had been raised for the family.
